The Joy Of Creation

One of the comments I remember hearing from a music teacher when I was a child was the quote "genius is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration." For some reason this stuck with me and still echoes in the background of my thoughts in relation to creativity. I think about almost all the music I've written over the years and realize it would never have manifested had I not "made an appointment" to sit and write every week - the same as we make scheduled appointments with others in our lives. This aspect of discipline is crucial for creative people of all walks of life. If we wait until we are "inspired", the creative act may never come about and we miss the joy of creation and sharing that joy with others.

  1. I totally agree! I'm presently illustrating for a book and if I don't discipline myself to complete at least one drawing a day, I'm sure it will take ages or years to complete. With my one a day rule, it is moving along steadily! Blessings! Christina

Thanks so much for visiting me at calej.blogspot.com inspiring thoughts you have here :)

  2. Betsy, Thank you for the invitation to visit your blog. I enjoyed the videos of your music, it's raining here today and the music went perfectly with the mood of the day.

I must say that I am not as disciplined as you with my music, more impulsive and somewhat driven. But with my digital art I create almost everyday, so I have something to share on my blog: http:\\gatzkart.blogspot.com.

I just recently joined SoundCloud to be able to share my music on my blog along with the artwork. I am not currently selling my music, only sharing it with others, I enjoy it this way.

I also enjoy the input on creativity on your blog. It can be an elusive thing but with patience and imagination things get done!
