The Importance of Enjoyment

How many of us really know how to enjoy life - and I mean under all circumstances. I'm not talking about the kind of exciting thrills one gets on a ride at Disneyland. I'm talking about the ability to derive meaning and interest and sometimes joy from the simplest tasks, from the ones that are easy to enjoy,to the ones we put off as long as possible - in other words the whole range of experiences. What is the secret to maintaining a state of serenity and interest in everything we do? There are many elements, but here are some of the ones I've discovered: Start by finding (if you haven't already) something you really love to do and make time for it (even a little time at it is better than not at all). Be disciplined about keeping up with it,since the more you do it the more enjoyment you generate for yourself. This activity eventually builds up a resevoir of good feeling that can spill out into the areas of life we tend not to enjoy so much. Appreciate your experiences as you go and realize you wouldn't be having them unless you needed them in some way. Develop a love for learning if you don't have it already, and adopt the attitude that there is something to be learned from every experience - something that will help me in some way - in one or more aspects of my life. Life then sort of becomes like a treasure hunt, and becomes much more fun!
