We're Not In Control
"Do you think I know what I'm doing?
That for one breath or half breath I belong to myself?
As much as a pen knows what it's writing.
Or the ball can guess where it's going next."
RUMI

Living Life Backwards
The trouble with using experience as a guide is that the final exam often comes first and then the lesson. ~Author Unknown

silver glimmer dust: 17I can't even begin to tell you what it's likeAt...
POEM BY AN EXCEPTIONAL FELLOW BLOGGER silver glimmer dust:
17I can't even begin to tell you what it's likeAt...: 17 I can't even begin to tell you what it's like At the very age I met my groom to be What shall I dare say?... Intrigue lies ...
17I can't even begin to tell you what it's likeAt...: 17 I can't even begin to tell you what it's like At the very age I met my groom to be What shall I dare say?... Intrigue lies ...
If You Haven't Read This Poem It's Worth A Read, If You Have It's Worth A Second Or Third Reading
IF
If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!
Rudyard Kipling

Pass On The Gift
Attitude is Key
Service with a smile is a rare and precious thing. So often those who are in positions to be of service to others forget how their attitude affects those around them. Anyone...teachers, ministers, artists, the guy at the local burger place, grocery store, library, you name it, the list goes on...they all pass on their attitude to those that they serve. If one is full of gratitude for the gift of life and all its blessings, then that can be passed on to those they serve, otherwise they pass on whatever thoughts & attitudes remain unexamined. Something for us all to think about...

Influence Of The Mind
This is a repost of an entry I posted awhile back. Not sure who said this, but I can see the truth in it: "Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life. If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted. If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten. If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind."

Seeing The Wonders In Life
There's a great children's book called "The Seven Wonders Of Sassafras Springs" (by Betty Birney) about a boy who is challenged by his father to see if he can find seven "wonders" in the "ordinary" town he lives in. The boy believes that wonders are only to be seen in far away, "glamorous" places like Egypt and Greece. He accepts the challenge of finding seven wonders in the time span of a week, with his father's promise that he will send him on a trip to Colorado as a reward. Without spoiling the story (it's worth reading it yourself), the boy shows the reader that the secret to discovering the wonders of life is to adopt the attitude of a child. It reminds us of how much we miss by taking everyone and everything for granted.
